Obadan Kicks Against Pay Raise For Politicians

BENIN CITY - Rev. Peter Obadan, a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, has criticised the proposed 100 per cent pay raise for political office holders.

Obadan, who spoke with newsmen in Benin, said although the remuneration of the National Assembly members and other political office holders should be reviewed, it should not be increased by 100 per cent.

He said the pay raise should not be limited to only political office holders but extended to other public service workers.

He said there should be equity in the remuneration of political office holders and those of the public service workers.

“It is disheartening that some service sectors in this country are poorly paid.

Given the condition of the associated risk of these sectors, they should be well paid.
‘’I will not be happy seeing them, the politicians, earning much and the public servants earning far less,’’ Obadan said.

He also called for a complete re-orientation of politicians for better service delivery to the people.

He commended the present crop of senators under the leadership of Sen. David Mark for their efforts at ensuring good governance.
