Search Rescue: Airforce Trains Pilots Abroad

 

LAGOS - In a bid to tackle emergencies in the nation’s aviation industry, the Nigeria Air force has sent 16 of its personnel to Florida , United States (U.S.) for deep sea operations and also train pilots on search and rescue, but are requesting for the need of an helicopters and platform designated for search and rescue, as they said it is not the function of the Airforce alone to rescue people alive.


The disclosure was made by Air Marshal Bala Danbaba, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Logistics during a courtesy call on the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Captain Ado Sanusi in his office.


Danbaba explained that to tackle the problem, the Nigeria Airforce had sent sixteen of its personnel to Florida , United States (U.S.) for deep sea operations, stressing that they are also training pilots on search and rescue, but noted that their is need for helicopters and platform designated for search and rescue.


According to Danbaba, “In the past, we had some of the best fighters, after a while things went hat wire, some were retired and some left the service. Now, we are training them afresh. We are trying to get back to what we used to be.


The issue of search and rescue is embarrassing to us. We must help each other; let us appreciate our strengths and weaknesses”.
