By FRIDAY OBANOR

BENIN CITY - Edo State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has charged council chairmen in Edo South Senatorial district to attract more infrastructural development to the district.

The committee which visited Oredo, Orhionmwon, Ovia North East, Ovia South West and Egor at the weekend, lamented the low level of development in the senatorial district.

A member of the committee, Hon. Etinosa Ogbeiwe, in his remark during the committee’s visit to lguobazuwa, said from available statistics, Edo South Senatorial district was the least developed amongst the three senatorial districts in the state.

Hon. Ogbeiwe, however, enjoined council chairmen in the senatorial district to embark on infrastructural development that would make the district attractive for investors.

On his part, Hon. Christopher Adesotu who is also a member of the committee, promised to arrange a meeting through the House Committee on Works, between the chairmen of Ovia North East and Ovia South West local government councils and the multi national companies that ply the Benin – Iguobazuwa – Okada road on the possible way to repair the failed portion of the road by Agbonmuoba village, saying that the current state of the road posed serious danger to motorists.

Hon. Adesotu charged the chairmen of the two Ovia councils to ensure constant clearing of the verges in their respective areas so as to avoid accident.

The lawmaker, who was particularly concerned with the busy nature of the road at the Ovia North East axis, however gave a two-week ultimatum to the Chairman of Ovia North East Local Government Council, Hon. Faustines Ovienrioba to get the verge on the road from Egor Local Government Area end to his domain, cleared.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Patrick Asowieren had told the council chairmen that the committee was in their domain for familiarization visit and also to inspect some projects so far executed since they were sworn-in in December 2007.
