Kaduna - The ICPC has said the anti-corruption campaign in the country would only succeed if a fool-proof system was evolved in public offices.
Mr. Godwin Oche, ICPC’s Head of Research and Statistics said this at a workshop on ‘’Operating an Efficient and Effective Anti-Corruption Unit ‘’ for federal ministries and parastatal agencies in Kaduna.
He said a fool-proof system was a prerequisite in the war against corruption in the country.
‘’ If a corrupt procedure is allowed to operate for just one day, it may cause damage that could take several years to correct,’’ he said.
He, however, said a fool-proof system was not easy to establish, stressing that a lot depended on the initiating officers of such organisations.
According to him, the possibility of setting up such system rested on the resolve of such officers to live above board.
The ICPC official warned that beneficiaries of a corrupt system would always fight back.
He, therefore, advised public institutions to adopt automated system that
minimises corruption by reducing personal contact between service providers and recipients.
Oche also called for inter-agency cooperation to detect a defective system already in use.
He advised anti-graft practitioners to ‘’remain firm and focused, remembering that a stitch in time saves nine”.
