NDE Trains First Female Welder In Bayelsa

YENAGOA - The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced the training of
the first female welder in pipeline welding and general fabrication in Bayelsa.

Reports say that the trainee welder is Bayelsa born, Miss Boloboere Iniebie, from Amassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

Iniebie told newsmen in Yenagoa that she got involved in the NDE vocational skills development programme, which commenced in May and would end in April next year.

Iniebie said the training involved theory and practical and that she was selected from five others, after they had collected forms from NDE and their names sent to Abuja for screening.

She called on the women folk to brace up by under-going training in the welding profession, stating that they should not limit themselves to only hair dressing, catering, computer and fashion design.

Iniebie noted that women can also be trained in carpentry, aluminum and boat building instead of roaming the streets of Yenagoa doing nothing.

The trainee who said the place of training was sub-standard called on trainees to go to areas nearer to their residence because most of them dropped out of training for the lack of money for transport fares.
