BENIN CITY - The Delta State Female handball team coach Isagba Wilson Peter has said that the on-going Eternit National Handball championship in Benin City is a preparatory tour ahead of Kaduna 2008 sports Festival for them.
The coach who was chatting with OBSERVERsports on day 2 of the championship at the Etete sports complex in the state capital affirmed that the need to expose their festival players was imperative.
According to him, “having qualified for the Festival hand ball game, we feel there is every need to take the players out for a training tour of which this championship will be a good experience because is open for the senior category.
“Some of the players are just coming up, there is need to expose them to get use to the big stage.
When they play with experienced players they learn better and at the festival it will be an easy ride,” he reasoned against this backdrop, the lanky, soft-spoken coach averred that winning is not a task for the team in this championship giving their 6 – 18 bashing by Edo in the first game while commending the Delta state government for giving sports priority in the state.
“Yes is good to win in any championship, but we are looking ahead of this championship and the government of Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan has been very supportive in sports development in the state”, he enthused .
