BENIN CITY – Edo State Government has reiterated its position that only the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board is mandated to register and coordinate pilgrims for visits to the Holy Land.
A statement signed by Mr. E.O. Osigbemhe on behalf of the Secretary, Edo Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, said it had come to the notice of the Edo State Government that certain persons in the state were parading themselves as agents of a group appointed to register and coordinate intending pilgrims for visits to the Holy Land of Jerusalem and other sites in Israel.
It noted that no organization, or individual was empowered or licensed by government to do so, in consonance with the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission Act, 2007.
The statement therefore warned members of the public not to associate themselves with anybody or group advertising themselves as representative of a Tourist Company in Israel mandated by the state government to embark upon registration of pilgrims as they would be doing so at their own risk.
It also advised intending pilgrims to always visit the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board Office at Rooms 228-230, 2nd Floor, Secretariat Building, Sapele Road, Benin City to pick up forms and process them accordingly.
