EKPOMA - The Onogie of Ekpoma, HRH Zaiki (Barr.) Anthony Ehizogie Abumere ll has called on people to desist from referring to Iruekpen Quarter as a separate kingdom from Ekpoma.
Zaiki Abumere ll who was visibly unhappy over the development gave the warning while receiving in his palace, Ekpoma Okpa Association, an association of Ekpoma indigenes in London and Northern Ireland, who are in Ekpoma to offer a week-long free medical care to the people of Ekpoma.
The traditional ruler observed that Iruekpen which is just a quarter in Ekpoma Kingdom was often been referred to as a separate community from Ekpoma kingdom, in the media.
Correcting the misconception, the Onogie explained that Iruekpen was a quarter in Ekpoma Kingdom, as such should be called Iruekpen-Ekpoma like Eguare-Ekpoma, Ujoelen-Ekpoma, Ujemen-Ekpoma and other quarters that make-up Ekpoma Kingdom.
He therefore advise the people, especially those in the media to desist henceforth from reporting Iruekpen quarter as if it were a separate kingdom from Ekpoma, pointing out that it has the potentials of creating division in the hearts of his subjects.
The Onogie praised the Ekpoma Okpa Association for the gesture and called on his subjects to take advantage of the free medical care to treat the various ailments that may exist in their systems.
The association members were accompanied on the visit by the chairman of Esan West Local Government, Hon. Felix Akhabue, Supervisors and other officials of the council.
The Esan West Chairman, during the visit told the Onogie that the council had fulfilled its part of the arrangement which include provision of accommodation and transportation for the doctors and association members.
