By Mike OSAROGIAGBON

BENIN CITY- It was a harvest of arrests as the police in Benin yesterday paraded 22 suspected criminals, nabbed for various criminal offences across Edo state.

The suspects comprising of 12 suspected cultists and 10 armed robbery suspects including a 27 year –old amputee allegedly caught during a robbery operation along Ebelle–– Ekpoma axis of the state, were paraded at the state police command headquarters, Benin City.

Parading the suspects before newsmen, the image – maker of the command, ASP Peter Ogboi disclosed that the arrests were made possible by the combined efforts of vigilante groups who he said partnered with the police in the areas to track – down the suspects.

While urging residents of the state to partner with the police in ensuring effective security in the state, ASP Ogboi told parents whose children were among the suspects or were once paraded as cultists should bury their heads in shame as crime was an evidence of parental failures.

He stated that the hoodlums would be charged to court after completion of investigation.
Items recovered from the suspects include:

Live cartridges, three locally made guns, bow and arrows, cash, daggers, long knives, charms, different brands of electronics, gun powder, handsets and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

Some of the suspects admitted committing the offence while others claimed they were innocent.
