‎Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs has led to the cancellation of proposed international friendlies with Venezuela and Colombia by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

‎An NFF official disclosed this on condition of anonymity on Thursday and confirmed the latest development, citing the resounding 4-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital.

‎The official said: “The victory in Uyo secured our spot in the playoffs hence the cancellation of the games so that the team can focus on the task ahead.”

‎The Super Eagles will face Gabon in the semi-final of the African playoffs on November 13, with the winner advancing to the final against the winner of the Cameroon-Democratic Republic of Congo match.

‎The final is scheduled for November 16, with the winner representing Africa in the inter-confederation playoffs in March 2026.

‎The playoffs offer Nigeria a second chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will feature an expanded 48-team format.

‎The tournament is scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

‎Nigeria’s path to the World Cup will be determined by their performance in the playoffs, with the winner earning a spot in the inter-confederation playoffs.

‎The Super Eagles will be led by their star players, including Victor Osimhen, who scored a hat-trick in their match against Benin Republic.
